What is the socialization window
The first 3-16 weeks of a puppy's life is a critical period when the brain is most receptive to new things. What the puppy meets at this time will be perceived as "normal" for the rest of its life.
What the puppy should see
- Different people (children, elderly, wearing hats, with a leash)
- Other dogs (healthy, vaccinated)
- Cats, birds, other animals
- Transportation (cars, bicycles, skates)
- Different surfaces (tiles, grass, sand, stairs)
- Sounds (dustbuster, thunder, fireworks - via recording)
IMPORTANT: safety
Do not allow the puppy to walk on the ground in public until the course of vaccinations is completed (usually 16 weeks). Socialize in your arms, in a carrier, on sterile surfaces.
Puppy classes
We recommend signing up for a puppy class - cynological courses for puppies 10-16 weeks old. There, puppies learn to play with others, commands and basic discipline.
